Friends, they move on

Tonight, I was very happy to share a meal with a colleague I have very quickly managed to form a close friendship with since starting work in Canberra.
It was a great night, sharing a meal with him and his girlfriend, before ducking away to see a movie. Unfortunately, it has also marked the beginning of the end of us working together, as he has announced a new job he will start in a couple of weeks time.

This is pretty sad for me, although I certainly don’t begrudge anyone opportunities to move ahead with their career, because I don’t have that great a track record of forming relationships with enough dimension to outlast fairly
basic change in circumstance.

This time things seem a bit different though.
We seem to have connected on enough levels that a change in workplace won’t be an immediate end. I certainly hope to see there will be more occasions for us to get together for quite a while to come and we continue to bring great insight into each others way of seeing the world.

I hope this last week working together is fantastic, it’s followed by a great week off, and that leads to a wonderful first week in a new workplace.

Good friends like this are a wonderful thing. Don’t let distance stop the relationship from continuing and growing. Gotta love Skype! Cheers. Kim*
